Because I can tell you, those guys in BUD/S out in Coronado CA are revieving that in full force on a daily basis. I got used to it and it does not really bother me, because the soreness goes away after I warm up (doing mobility work in the evenings and/or mornings helps too) and it does not affect my performance. But it leaves me curious, because I hardly ever experienced DOMS&#039;s when I exercised in my twenties, but they became my constant companion now that I am in my fourties. Massage (which may just reset the pain receptors), BCAA has probably been studied, etc.  You make a good point about the warm-up effect and I don&#039;t see soreness per se as a reason to avoid training.  By the time most are warmed up, it&#039;s mostly gone and unless it&#039;s stunning severe, rarely inhibits performance to any great degree.  If you wanna dig into this, this is what Pubmed brings up.  From memory, while many of these manipulations reduce the sensation of DOMS, it doesn&#039;t change actual performance.
